| How come that jeans/pants that you buy new are always to long? Any ideas about altering them? I am 5'7, and taller than a lot of women my age. I wear either a 7 or 9, depending on the cut of the jeans/pants. But here lately, I don't care what brand it is, or style, or whatever - it never fails that they are always to long. Example: I bought some pants from Old Navy just last week and the size was 7 Short. But this morning when I went to wear them, they weren't short!!! And, it drove me nuts all day,dragging the cuff of my pants around. I mean, I don't mind some cuff around my feet but dragging half the leg of the pant ---- DRIVES ME INSANE. I have cut the ends off for years, and worn the cuffs ragged with no seam/hem (??) (hope you know what I mean.) BUT, that is so old and I refuse to do that anymore - so, now what? I have seen altered pants that look silly, and nervous about that route. So what else is there to do? |
| I feel you. I am also 5'7" and wear a size 28 (or a 6) and everything is too long. I am told by my infinitely more fashionable baby sister that it is to accomodate high heels. Well, three guys into my life, heels and jeans are not words I use in the same sentence. Higher end shops like Indigo will hem the jeans they sell. You can also get most upscale cleaners to do this type of alteration. Its like the hems got longer as the waists got lower. I just want my old Levi's back - the ones that I could bend over in and not moon the world:) Just FYI - sometimes I find things at Old Navy not to be sized completely consistently. You might try on two or three pairs of the same jeans in your size and buy the ones that fit the best. |

| There are several types of sport clothing companies that produce pants (and tops) that will wick sweat away from the body. Just go to several different sporting goods stores (or check online for that matter) and you should be able to get a good idea what's out there. |

| Do not put the stained items into the dryer( it will permanently set the dye) . Get a bottle of Rit Dye remover, it may strip more of the base color of the garment, but it is better than no hope. Follow the directions on the bottle or package. It come in liquid and a powder. Most large grocery stores have it , or Walmart. |

| Use a blind stitch. I'm sorry, I don't know quite how to explain, but you can look at this other answer from a year ago that explains it more than I ever could. Good luck! Best Answer - Chosen by Voters Got this explanation in a Yahoo search: Blind Stitch For hems (where strength is not needed). Attaching lining, facing, or flaps to a garment where the stitches should not show on either side. Often used in applique. Technique The "trick" with this stitch is that, instead of sewing through the fabric, you are sewing near the surface of the fabric. The needle point does not go through the other side of the fabric: you take up single threads that lie near the surface. In general, it is easier to do the stitch going from right to left. Reverse this (go left to right) if you are left-handed. Depending on what you are using this stitch for, you will probably need to "roll back" one of the fabric pieces. Nudge the tip of the needle underneath a single thread on fabric A. This may take a few tries. Once you're sure it's underneath a single thread, push the needle through. Pull gently until you've reached the knotted end. The single thread may break. If so, just try a new single thread. Nudge the tip of the needle underneath a single thread on fabric B, just a bit to the left of where you ran the thread on fabric A. Just how far to the left depends on how big you want to make your stitches. (Stitches that are about 1/4 of an inch apart work pretty well.) Pull the thread through. Nudge the tip of the needle underneath a single thread on fabric A, just a bit to the left of where you ran the thread on fabric B. Pull the thread through. You should now have two stitches that form a roughly triangular shape: /\ . Pull very gently to tighten the stitch. Pulling too tightly can cause the cloth to "pucker" and look lumpy. Daifuku: Personally, I find it easier to do several stitches very "loosely" and then very gently pull the thread to tighten them. Otherwise, I sometimes have to loosen up the stitch again so that I can roll enough fabric back to start the next stitch. Additional notes For most fabrics, taking up a single thread works just fine. For delicate fabrics, like satin, it may be hard to take up just one thread or the single thread may break. In those cases, you can take up a a few more threads. Just make sure that you aren't pulling up threads that lie deeper in the fabric. If you take up too many threads, the stitch will be noticable. This stitch takes a lot of practice and can be very tiring on your hands. If you haven't tried using this stitch before, try practicing on two pieces of medium-weight cotton and use a contrasting color thread so you can really see what you are doing. |
